TREASURER Peter Costello has declared tomorrow's Federal Budget will "put a map down for the future", by including "practical measures" to tackle climate change and huge defence spending.

This will see an emphasis on practical programs to address climate change, in a direct contrast to Labor's so-called "symbolic" agenda of signing Kyoto and establishing an Australian version of the British Stern climate change review.

But Mr Costello said the Government's broad responsibilities, including tackling climate change and delivering tax cuts, could be met only when the economy was strong and well managed.


GRK is still in line for the REDI grant but there may be other incentives coming. Carbon trading as being pushed by the state Premiers would be very beneficial.
