Perfectly put Dex. If it wasn't for Whitlam I wouldn't have been able to go to university, and I have paid a lot of tax since then. This policy, and what has gone on in higher education over the last twenty five years, is sending us back to pre-Whitlam been education for the wealthy and I note since fees have been rising all this does is send people overseas where the tax is not paid in any event. As I said I have paid a lot of tax here.

I am transitioning to retirement and all I can say is that most university students of late I have seen in engineering/geology/science you know can't even add up - it is what happens to the education system when it becomes fee paying and you are encouraging foreign students to study (standards come down because you can't fail too many because the foreign students won't come to study here and standards drop for all).

Anyway, another reason to tell your kids to learn a trade themselves - tradies earn more than a lot of people with degrees now without the debt (and the moves in OH&S in the tradie area will allow new people in the field to work longer in the field compared to the past). You just have to look at the construction of houses today compared to 40 years ago to understand what I have just said, and btw apart from me that went to uni my family/relatives are generally tradies.
