" People earning high incomes have plenty of ways to legally avoid tax " .
Sorry Dave R but that is a completely rubbish statement .
Firstly , you are suggesting that anyone who earns over 87k is rich .
Secondly , you clearly have never been negatively geared or bought ' a few houses ' . If you had you would understand that you have to find the money for the deposits and deal with all the risks that come with that investment . It isn't as easy as you make out .
Thirdly , there are thousands of payg tradies and shift workers that earn 100 - 150 k a year . They are hardly wealthy and they have very few tax deductions so they pay more than their fair share of tax .
If you were in the 87k + category you would know that and you wouldn't make broad statements about reducing taxable income to zero which is absolutely incorrect .
As to BS attacking ' the wealthy ' with his medicare levy , he'd better do his homework . According to this article he will be taxing a lot of ordinary Australians , not just the wealthy ones . More than likely the NDIS will continue to be unfunded which is the last thing we need .
