now I am a free-thinker but am in no doubt that Jesus was a real person, historically credible.

All the embellishment which followed his life and death was in the hands of often well-meaning, but often fallible, manipulating, sometimes corrupt people. Who did see events at the time in the context of layers of various "Gods" and beliefs.

With an overlay of the ruthlessness and cruelty of the Roman Empire.

We have to find our own "truths." And none of us could possible be all "right", or all "wrong."

Like history in general, records are put down by people
in various positions of power. How close to the "truth" these records are for posterity depends greatly on various personal interpetations according to the authors, and the prevailing social conditions of the day.
How close, or far away, from the real events were they, geographically and time wise.

Such records are invariably written by males. It would be helpful to get women's viewpoints on historical events. The recording of "history" is a very male province.

The terrible impacts of WW1 and WW2 on millions of women's and children's lives worldwide are never written about. Yet they were the ones who had to "hold the fort", keep families together, and raise their children on their own, either while their men were away, or permanently.
