Just out of curiosity, I googled the question of how many vehicles in total are on the roads in China?

172 million registered vehicles was the answer I got. That was reported in early 2016, for 2015 figures.

So at a guess, if we looked at April 2017, it would probably come out at 200 million registered vehicles.

There is a big push - for fairly obvious reasons (pollution) - by Chinese megacities, to encourage the population to buy electric vehicles. There are already over 1 million electric vehicles on China's roads.
They seem to be doing this with free licensing of electric vehicles - a considerable monetary incentive.

Plenty of other interesting stats, for anyone interested in looking for them. For example, will Chinese authorities impose a 'one car per household policy?' in coming years.

With a population of 1.40 Billion (according to the latest from the world population clock), still plenty of room for expansion in the car ownership area.
