Every share holder has a right to a copy of the register if they want, highly unlikely that they would actually want the total register, and would be more likely to want a copy of the T20. As part of the Corporations Act 2001 Section 173 (3A) the company cannot refuse you, but they can stipulate conditions. The request has to be in the correct format and must also describe in detail why you are requesting a copy.
The company has 7 days to adhere to your request but it can be extended in some circumstances, any non compliance when submitting a request an official complaint to ASIC will normally get the situation solved.
I also believe that you can attend the companies office for a viewing as well as attending one of the branches of Securities Transfer Australia, they have offices in Melbourne/Sydney and Perth.
cheers
