"Pauline Hanson says One Nation's executive squashed a plan from her chief of staff James Ashby to charge inflated prices for campaign material.
Key points:
- Ashby raised plan to charge candidates inflated prices for election material during party meeting
- Hanson says strategy was never implemented
- Turnbull says matter "very serious", seeking advice from AFP and Justice Minister
The party has been embarrassed by a leaked recording of Mr Ashby canvassing the idea, and saying One Nation "had an opportunity … to make some money on this if we play this smart".
But Senator Hanson said the strategy was never given the green light.
"We knocked it on the head at the meeting. It didn't go ahead," Senator Hanson said.
"It was an issue that was raised and it was knocked on the head there and then. So it's never gone on to be implemented at all."
Mr Ashby said it was "embarrassing" the discussion had been leaked, saying he'd used "a poor choice of words".
But he maintained he merely floated the idea as part of a "brainstorming session".
