Just a quick comparison and comment Tom.
WhatsApp is a messaging app that lets users text, chat, and share media, including voice messages and video, with individuals or groups.
Sounds similar yeah?
The majority of WhatsApp users live in Europe, India, and Latin America. Not Australia or the US.
So.. even if once hard launched if the app doesn't find favour here (which I find impossible to fathom) that doesn't mean it won't find favour elsewhere..
Does Whatsapp aggregate your contacts across platforms like Twitter; LinkedIn; Office 365 etc?
No it doesn't. It synchs your phone contacts and since being acquired by FB for $16B it also synchs your FB friends. It remains walled off and siloed outside of your phone & FB contacts.
Does it have an in built Search engine?
No it doesn't. So cut and paste it is. With Thred there's no more cut and paste.
Can you pull chat into Word etc using Whatsapp?
No you can't. With Thred you will.
Can you log into Whatsapp on desktop without your phone and a QR code?
No you can't. With Thred you can.
Can you have a private conversation within a group conversation with Whatsapp?
No you can't. With Microthreds you can with Thred.
So the predominant first and foremost unique feature is in the contact aggregation. Thred has the ability to grow the worlds largest contact database from which to launch chat making it super attractive to bigger players in time I'm sure.
But there's more. Snack media and share with contacts from within Thred. Book a taxi; order a meal; buy concert tickets from within Thred..
Share office content with work groups and collaborate with work colleagues..
Whatsapp uses phone & FB contacts (walled)
Kik Messenger uses phone & email (walled)
The list of walled messaging apps goes on and on..
Also FB weren't the first SM player to hit the market either. They just did it better and smarter.
So if you are absolutely adamant that Thred is in no way unique and just like every other messaging app out there then it is pretty obvious that you are completely missing the mark.
The value lies in competing with Slack and Yammer and the likes. Business productivity tool that goes above and beyond what is currently available on the market. Thred is working toward that. That and having the worlds biggest contact database.
