Merkel said she had been briefed about the latest lithium cells which could allow cars to travel up to 1,000 kilometers without needing to be recharged - a major advance from current operating range of 200-300 kilometers.

I have always been a little concerned that lithium battery technology will be overtaken by some new innovation in technology. With reference to my investments in juniors and the few years away from production they are - (if they find viable deposits!).
From all my research it seems Lithium is the choice at least for the next decade with nothing on the horizon to replace it soon and the sheer quantity of investment in factories and mines. There is an investment to protect in the short to medium term with lithium and therefore it will continue to be improved to make it commercially viable and the technology of choice for batteries. Certainly a 1000kms between recharges is a game changer for the car industry and the viability of Li batteries maintaining a dominant place in the market.

Go lithium!
