Anthony did mention Sumitomo when he was discussing 3 possibilities and
@bobsacramento pointed out their tied to Tesla.
FMC signed an agreement for lithium hydroxide with a major US EV producer and there was similarities in the SDV announcement by Galaxy that spoke about generating their own electricity, then I read
THIS which sounds like the article you are mentioning also which mentioned their visit also related to sourcing lithium and just happened to be in Salta the same place that Sal De Vida is located.
I cannot place my finger on the news article but earlier in this thread I mentioned FMC having a 3 step plan to increasing production and the timing in that article matched that of the coming online and development of James Bay and Sal De Vida... It is just one of the many reasons I see a tie up with FMC.
FMC's lithium operations dont produce the company much revenue from what I have been able to ascertain and it has been mentioned to me that they might not be willing to sell Galaxy their Fenix operation but they might be open to expanding production under some what of a partnership.. Even
@airconditioner post recently indicated a possibility of such a tie up.. It makes sense and rapidly unlocks value in the Sal De Vida asset...
It's also a possibility that the above is taking place under tight negotiations etc and probably why the company tip toed around talking about Sal De Vida and focussed on James Bay..
From what most of us know by now James Bay will have a converter attached and I had often wondered if Nemaska might be that company that gets brought into the fold. They have some good assets and I was impressed with Guy Bourassa's explanation of their hydroxide project. Interest they listed a patent here in Australia recently.
HERE
The explanation in the news article didn't give me a good understanding as to why they decided to do it unless their is a possibility of doing something either in conjunction with Tianqi who I understand own 5% or working with another local producing lithium company which leaves NMT and GXY.
Though it was indicated to me sometime back when I made enquiries to the company the concern of energy costs in Australia to convert despite the savings in shipping. - I am sure Anthony explained the cost comparison between energy in Australia and that in Canada.. So yes James Bay will have a converter which is great..
Here is a snip from a recent news article titled:
Lithium demand story real: Galaxy
"The company also owns the James Bay hard rock project in Canada, which has a resource of 22.2Mt at 1.28% lithium oxide.
Exploration and a revised definitive feasibility study are due to start shortly.
Tse said the company would consider partnering with a Chinese company for a downstream conversion facility, capitalising on its residual knowhow from its former Jiangsu plant in China."
