Hi Biggle’s and all,
Well after all these years we have at last found something to agree on I would also prefer to hold physical Gold over any kind of crypto currency. It’s difficult to find something even more dodgy than the many government printed forms of money but in my opinion bitcoin etc. would qualify.
As It’s Sunday and I know you love my cute folksy stories so: Several years ago an old guy came into my metal fabrication work shop with a very rough sketch for some steel gates he wanted me to build for him. I worked out the required material and gave him an estimated price. He looked me fair in the face and told me he did not use money, I thought at last I have met a fellow Gold bug and he wants to pay with physical Gold, sadly he went on to describe the benefits of something new at the time Bartercard! Told me it was going to be the next great thing to replace money, when I picked him up (he was not all that heavy) to throw him out of my office he was one of the only people I ever threw out that did not bounce off any of the few steps in front of my office door.
Talk about tenacious the same old guy turned up a couple of days later looking to buy a piece of 50 x 50 x 6 of angled steel as he wanted to repair his old wooden gates and he had brought cash! It happened to be lunch time and all my guys were in the lunch room so I walked over to the steel rack and put a length of steel into the drop saw and asked what length he needed he indicated around 600mm so I cut that for him. Seeing the ease the drop saw did of cutting the steel he asked if I could cut the angle into 4 x 150mm lengths I obliged. I took the four bits of steel over to the linishing wheel next to the drill in the machine shop and removed all the sharp edges for him. He then asked if I would drill four 6mm screw holes in each (now) brackets I once again marked out the holes and drilled them. He told me he intended to support his drive way gates with these brackets I asked if they were going to be outside in the weather and he said yes. So I removed any remaining mill scale from the steel and hit them with a coat of red oxide paint, I then strung all four onto a length of mig welding wire for him to carry and allow the paint to dry.
He asked me how much he owed me for the brackets, I had spent over an hour of my time, however, I looked at his old frame, his clothing and his old bush hat and I said call it $20.00. He then said I’m a pensioner you know I asked him do you want me to cut your #@*&ing hair as well!
Now sorry where were we ah! Yes crypto currencies and bitcoin if others have sufficient faith in investing in them I wish them luck they are not for this little brown duck! I will stick to physical Gold!
Cheers and very best regards: Andy
