Wouldn't you agree that the pigheadedness is on both sides of the fence ?

No one owns the word ' married ' . If a same sex relationship has the same rights and legal standing as a hetero relationship and that relationship is about honouring committment to each other then what's the difference ?

Are unmarried hetero couples with children of a lesser standard than those that have a piece of paper ?

You can't use the argument that it's about procreation because childless couples are very common as are IVF children these days . There was a time when interracial marriage wasn't allowed . I'll bet there were some excuses around about standards to support that old argument .
What about getting remarried ? That wasn't ' allowed ' either back in the day .

Times change , rules change , standards change .

I suspect that this argument is about much more than a simple word . People are getting all fired up over a simple word and yet they accept people in same sex relationships ?

    I don't think so .

The argument over the word is an excuse for covering up for people's distaste for same sex relationships . They just don't want to admit it .
