ABB to deliver HVDC Light technology to Australia
Project allows energy trading in Australia’s deregulated power market
Zurich, Switzerland, December 22, 1998 - ABB, the international engineering and technology group, has won an order to build a power link in Australia using High-Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) technology. The 65-kilometer (41-mile) so called HVDC Light link will connect the power grids of Queensland and New South Wales and allow power to be traded for the first time between the two states.

Compared to the previous identical periods in 1999 and 2000, the only changes
which took place in Queensland had been the commissioning of a 180MW
HVDC interconnection between the lower voltage transmission networks in
northern New South Wales and southern Queensland in July of 2000, and the
early stages of commissioning of a 420MW unit at Callide C.

Doesn't mention HVDC, but relevant to long distance transmission:

ABB in consortium to run South Australia’s power transmission network
Zurich, Switzerland, September 20, 2000 – Global technology group ABB said today it is part of a consortium selected by the State of South Australia to operate and maintain a high-voltage power transmission network in the State under a long-term lease agreement.
The consortium members are ABB, Queensland Electricity and Transmission Company (operating as Powerlink), and Macquarie Bank Limited. The consortium will operate and maintain the power transmission network – including some 5,500 kilometers of transmission lines - under the existing ElectraNet name. ABB said it is a 19.5 percent owner of ElectraNet SA, corresponding to an equity investment of US$ 10 million. The transmission system is the last electricity asset to be privatized in South Australia.
