Even though there were blackout periods couldn't they have just put a motion forward to buy in at the current price? Very similar to the Future Placement Shares motion but instead buying on market and instilling a heap of confidence and probably price increase?
I am not certain of the blackout rules however thought this was a possibility especially since if news is imminent as mentioned in the meeting then this is probably still considered a blackout period (and they asked for Future Placement Shares regardless).
Again, not sure on blackout rules but figured that directors always have a way to obtain shares if they want (even if have to put to vote). Could be totally incorrect though...
