Here's a conundrum for you (all).

The elephant in the room is population. To be honest, I don't give a rat's for the problem of climate change - never have, never will. One way or other, we'll cope. What does worry the heck out of me is pollution. What does scare me is that nobody is talking about the impact of increasing population on irreversible pollution (earth, air, water) and I truly believe, having lived through the nascence of the environmental movement in the 60s/70s and all it's subsequent successes and failures, is that all the talk about climate change has sucked the oxygen out of every other environmental issue, but particularly out of over-population. It's almost a dirty-word conversation that the PC police have banned. And, yes, I understand about how third-world countries with high birth rates evolve to have lower birth rates as their economies improve. But I reckon by then it will be too late. Here's an example: Egypt, with it's narrow slick of arable land, has a million births every nine months! And don't get me started on Indonesia ...

I posted a while back about pollution of the ocean with microfibres (and we thought using up PET bottle to make clothing was a good idea!). Google 'burning lakes' for a fun read (e.g. https://www.theguardian.com/cities/...kes-experts-fear-bangalore-uninhabitable-2025), and @Facthunter posts about methane bubbles in Siberia ...

    I could go on.

What does this have to do with GXY? Yup, EV and lithium-based storage batteries (and other renewables) are going to help reduce some pollution and Co2 emissions by reducing the need for coal-fired power stations and reliance on petro-products, and that's a good step in itself, but as I sit at Starbucks in Surfer's Paradise mall and watch the massive, barely-controlled consumerism (the takeaway food in plastics/polystyrene are only the tip of it), and, BTW, suffering the guilt of hypocrisy as I drink my chai latte, I think despondently, why bother with any of this renewable stuff when nobody is addressing the real issue of over-population.

Or maybe I'm just tired today ... I did drive 1000km solo yesterday ...

    Cheers, GW
