"CANBERRA (Dow Jones)--Nuclear power stations will be banned in Western Australia state under legislation to be introduced when parliament resumes sitting in June, Premier Alan Carpenter said Tuesday.
The legislation will prohibit the construction or operation of a nuclear facility, prohibit the transportation of certain material to a nuclear facility site and prohibit the connecting of nuclear generation plants to an electricity transmission or distribution system, he said.
Carpenter said the federal government is pushing for nuclear power and wants to override states on the development of nuclear reactors, but his state remains opposed to uranium mining and nuclear energy.
"I will do all I can to ensure W.A. remains free of nuclear power facilities," he said in a statement.
The new legislation will include a referendum trigger if the federal government tries to override the new law, he said."

Was someone saying that GRK is seeking a GEL in WA? Do you think that the other Labor States will follow suit?
