The other thing with agricultural commodities is for example the banana shortage last year. Of course prices went up but if there too expensive you can simply eat something else. If there is a zinc shortage there is little other option if you want to galvanise zinc.
In the case of nickel it can be done ie nickel free stainless steel, imports of pig iron but its certainly not a simple of quick process.
