I often think the same thing, a recent episode of Homeland shows a Propaganda machine that used bulk social media accounts to spread rumors and run a smear campaign against a presidential candidate. Was very interesting to see what is possible these days.
I also saw a story yesterday stating that at least 45% of Twitter accounts in Russia are BOT's. That's a lot of influence to the unsuspecting.

It is also not uncommon for online forum moderators to have the power to control the conversation by moderating post that don't follow their own self interest and to encourage the conversation or debate to run a certain direction.

Has this happened with XPED? To be honest, i haven't really thought too much about it. I do find it interesting that certain people pop up to kick the dog whilst its down and then run. Id have thought though that if the tech is really that good and worth going to such an extent to run a campaign , surely it would have been easier just to buy it out and move on. The players who would be interested in this tech have taken over companies in the past and just shut them down.
