    You are fortunate, Dave, to be part of a school community that applies common sense. Unfortunately this is not always the case. In Canberra a couple of years ago an autistic child was causing such disruption in a mainstream classroom, that the decision was made by the Principal to construct a cage for the child to be placed in when behaviour got out of hand. Parents of course were alarmed at this and the matter was taken to the HRC. The Principal was removed from her position. It is pretty clear that this child needed to be in an educational situation that had the facilities to cope with behavioural problems, and that the mainstream classroom teachers were driven to extreme levels of frustration. Well done to your community for providing these facilities ; I don't know whether this incident in Canberra led to changes in policy, but perhaps someone else on this forum has followed up the story.
