Lol love how you twist my words. The time to protect your IP is when you don't want others to steal it. To that end it is best to protect your IP via secrecy as LONG as possible then get it protected when you want to lift the level of secrecy. Putting it in a patent allows others to see what you are doing - which you don't want to do for as long as possible.

As for the rest re the SFP this is still a VERY young company trying to get it's footing around selling their first product as such things get improved over time and some mistakes are made. Get over it! And none of this has been a secrecy issue despite what you are trying to infer.
