Having read the threads, I see that at long as you satisfy the ATO's rules regarding "foreigner status", you can live a small portion of the year in Australia and the rest somewhere else where the CGT is lower than here, and gain an advantage that way. Many established foreign countries would have their own CGT that is applicable to your gains on Australian shares. I guess if you found the right set up and were prepared to live outside of Australia for the majority of the year it could work very well for you.
