I am only kidding.
Poyny,
No go for using exhausted CBM fields for UCG. In order to get the gas out of the coal, the CBM company needs to drain away the ground water. In order to do UCG successfully you need the ground water in place.
Jantimont,
Yes, water in excess of that created in the process is required to make the diesel. They will source it from Bores and from the CBM projects around the area.
Why the trial burn? Apparently you need to make sure that the UCG will be successful for that coal field. There are particular conditions required and even if these conditions are present there still may be a chance that it won’t work. Apparently out of 30 various UCG trial burns around the world 2 were not successful. Still not a bad success rate and thankfully LNC is past this stage.
Why the demonstration plant? Effectively what LNC is doing is ground breaking stuff. Prior to this FT used above ground gasification or natural gas. The gas you get from UCG is different.
Ptolemy,
If the gas is not suitable for GTL they will put it through a Gas turbine to generate electricity.
Regards,
Shane.
