I had stated many times before that so many here and in the media treating LNP at the federal level as if it is a party when it is not. It is a coalition of the Liberal Party and the National Party, except in Queensland where there is actually a Liberal National Party of Queensland, which came about as a result of the merger of the National Party and the Liberal Party in that state.
Before the merger, the National Party was the dominant party and the Liberal Party was just a small party concentrated mainly in south-eastern Qld areas.
Members elected under the LNP in Qld banner in federal parliament have the choice of sitting either as Liberal or as a National.
It is lazy of the media to lump the Liberals and Nationals as LNP at the federal level as if it is a unitary political party when it is not.
I am glad you have done some research and now know the difference and distinction.
