Atheism is is the belief that there is insufficient evidence to warrant a belief in a God or Gods but does not rule out the possibility that such evidence will ever be found.
Agnosticism is a belief that evidence to demonstrate the existence of a God can never be found. I'm not sure whether this excludes the possibility that there is a God.
The problem as I see it is trying to fit beliefs that question the existence of God into one of two words.
Some Atheists I know tend to see the issue in terms of a probability spectrum ranging from there is definitely a God to there is definitely not a God. They claim to be nearer the end of the spectrum that there is definitely not a God without going the whole hog of stating there is no God. Personally, I think that I don't have sufficient information to place myself anywhere on this spectrum - the lack of evidence for a God also makes it impossible (for me) place myself on the spectrum.
I can't go along with agnosticism (as defined above) because I think it assumes that we have knowledge that we do not have - in other words I think that we could only make that statement if we had all the relative information available to make the call.
I don't understand what darkroom believes either. Maybe (and I'm probably wrong) he places himself on the spectrum mentioned above closer to the side that favours a belief in a God without stating that there is definitely a God.
