I see pro's in both stocks and don't believe in putting all my eggs in one basket.
I have as much in the other stock as I feel comfortable with, and I am doing well with it.
I do however weight my investments accordingly.
Perhaps I would be better doing as you suggest, but I'm stubborn and don't want to sell at a loss.. not entirely rational, but I acknowledge and live with that
I don't quite understand what you mean with your first two comments re: value.
I agree saying "size is everything" is simply not true (unless the situation/application dictates it). That is my point though. FGR may have a better product but it doesn't necessarily mean people will be willing to pay a premium for it. In the cases where high purity is necessary, this may be the case, but as JS points out, what s the size of those markets.
Its quite a common practice to substitute a high cost component/ingredient, with one of lower effectiveness but even lower cost.
Anyway assigning a value at this stage is arbitrary, but the best price you will realize will always come back to its value in use.
Think of it this way, tin oxide is pretty much the best white pigment around, yet the vast majority of white pigment in paint is TiO2. Why would the world adopt this if it a poorer performer than its counterpart?
Similarly why do they not use Alumina which is cheaper again?
There are mutlitudes of reasons, but long and short is that it comes down to its value in use and for most applications the TiO2 wins out
Its not all about price, its not all about performance, its about everything. So even if TLG's material has good value in use it doesn't mean it will have a higher price. Think of it as a cost vs. performance ratio.
Price will always dictate demand at least to a degree...
I liked JS's quote regarding the cure for high priced materials is the high price
