    I personally use 7 years to cater for choosing a risky investment in the wrong cycle. Had a number of investments completely turn around after falling out of favour and then back again. Oil is not currently in favour but I believe that will turn around at least one more time.

    Hey, but that works for me. Others would sell out and try to buy back in during the upturn but timing is not my strong point.
