re: gold getting smacked and europe NEW YORK, Oct 2 (Reuters) - COMEX gold ended lower Thursday, pressured by the dollar's bounce from new lows against the euro but awaiting market-moving news to escape its consolidation range under last week's 7-year highs.
Financial markets were marking time for the release of the September US employment due at 0830 EDT on Friday, after some data this week temperewd hopes of a strong economic rebound.
Analysts see gold trading above $400 an ouncee this year. The dollar is on the ropes and investors are diversifying into bullion as portfolio insurance, amid worries that the summer manufacturing rebound could falter if the employment picture does not improve to sustai consumer demand
