The scientist I worked for, spent most of her day in her book infested office, and was in no way whatsoever interested in the consumer trappings of capitalist society. The stockmarket was as alien to her as a Bulgari watch.
In my opinion scientist's are in the whole, obsessive compulsive personalities, interested in one thing only, and that is the pursuit of science and truth. I think the only "materialistic thing they may strive for may be a Nobel prize, but definitely, NOT MONEY.
