On the subject of losing $$$ - I can honestly say that my worst investments without any doubt have been Oil/Gas Specs.
Not that I will be thanked for mentioning 'sue12' here but even his favorite AZZ (formerly AYO) has been a black hole for all but those who got in way back in the 30c era. And that was early 2000's.
Oil/Gas Exploration is high risk and drilling success rates are something like 1 in 20 for wildcat wells notwithstanding that they might have production wells all around them.
