As a Canberra resident, I think it's important not to conflate Canberra's function as a seat of government with it's physical form and population. Yes, it's a highly priviledged place to be sure but as a place to live, it's hard to beat. The community spirit is that of a small town but increasingly, the standard of living in terms of food, entertainment etc is that of a big city.
Also a number of hi tech companies are established here and even just yesterday I saw that we are exporting such things as smoked bacon and other comestibles to Singapore. And..... my own company is based here...... So, to say we produce nothing is not correct.
