nicwix, it's not so surprising that the anti nuclear lobby have so much sway in the naive public's perception on the viability of nuclear energy, thanks mainly to the gungho and cavalier attitude of the major powers in their pursuit of that energy in its infancy, (that being to build nuclear bombs) particularly the French with their above ground nuclear tests at the Bikini Islands. Also the Engish with their above ground tests in outback Australia.

The US, China, USSR were not much better.

Personally I think nuclear energy is by far the best of the choices to generate the vast amount of energy that will be required for the world, it is proven to be safe and increasingly becoming cheaper than other alternative energy sources.
