Once you sell a CGT asset, the gain or loss has occured. What you do with the proceeds is irrelevant. Even if you buy more shares as a trader, those shares are classed as stock and recorded as closing stock. Come the end of the financial year, any closing stock is added back so doesnt contribute to any purchases (expense).
