It was suggested by Zig in response to the Courier Mail that there was no involvement by Vadim in 'the deal'. Seems he is an integral partner to discussions.

If Dawes is still assisting Viktor it can be interpreted that his investment remained 'safe'.

From the outside it's difficult to see who is a black hat and who is a white hat and who might be a double agent.
