One day they probably will be cost effective but at the moment they are not. Prices need to rise more or the cost of utilising/storing solar has to decrease. It is not cost effective for the average household that is already grid connected. Payback period needs to be shortened.
It is an exercise in maths, and it doesn't pass at the moment.
