I guess you're right.
I've fallen for the trap of buying for the dividend before. Effective price for buying now is $3.85 - grossed up dividend (if selling within 12 months) = 3.63 hence yield approx 8.6% grossed up at 22c divi. It's not just a matter of whether the price will fall below $3.63 ex-div - it's whether to throw more money at Telstra!
Of course the downtrend since Feb 2015 continues and there's no sign of a reversal.....
