Having looked at their website, I think Citibank would be the best bank for Australian residents to deal with.

I have just phoned Citibank in the UK.
Mainland Citibank changed their policy in the last quarter of 2005 and they no longer allow Australian residents to open an account in the UK unless the applicant has been resident in the Uk for the last 6 months immediately prior to opening the account. Having opened an account it can be retained if the individual becomes an Australian resident.

I then phoned Citbank in Jersey.
They allow Australian residents to open bank accounts but their criteria are such that only millionaires are welcome. Finacial status must be backed up with documentary evidence.
