    You could be spot on

''Heavy fluids in the wellbore are the enemy of flow, the lighter the well bore column the better the chance of flow. If flow control is required due to high pressure, a valve can simply be closed. It is hard to conceive a purpose for mud in the initial flow testing.

(It is purely speculative, but seems more likely the mud is planned for a temporary well kill, to enable access to components within the well after the initial flow testing. If enough mud weight is placed in the wellbore the pressure at the well top drops to zero thereby allowing safe access to the well.)''

    The key take away

''This rather unsophisticated-looking brown sludge is a multipurpose tool carefully concocted, mixed and managed to clear a path for gas to surface from 7,500 feet below.''

I suppose if they have over pressure and the ''vapour phase'' is bubbling through, then mud glorious mud may be needed.

I am sure it is not to plug the well as cement tends to be used for that purpose.

For me, why have an ANN for fine tuning if the mud is to plug. The fine tuning could be because of over pressure on the Vapour phase.

    Then again
