It raises the whole issue of seperation of state and church. The (NT) has no concept of Church temporal power which probably means all the "State Church" denominations have never had legitimacy on that score at least. Obviously they got mixed up with the OT church/state institution. It certainly raises the question of whether "killers for God" could possibly lay any claim to be Christian in the NT or any real sense at all.
