Panic is your worst enemy in this game.
Rational thinking and planning are essential.
Blind hope is futile.
Impotent despair will undo you.
Preserve capital when key trends falter on quality stocks - 'yes' that means 'sell' but only when those major support lines are broken (I tend to use Friday closing prices only ). Don't panic and sell before this happens as one risks missing out on the next big upswing and the trend continuation momentum .... BUT if the trend breaks, get out because you will be able to buy back much more cheaply.
Get rid of any weak stocks - most specs fall into this category and build cash reserves for the inevitable buying opportunity.
Even if we get a major bear market (unlikely in my view) there will always be stocks that will buck the trend and rise - there will just be fewer of them.
The era of blindly pinning the tail to the rampant stock market donkey has gone - acute selectivity will now become a watchword in this market .... but don't panic and throw the baby out with the bathwater.
Good luck.
