there are 2 facts of life the gov't can't change

1. shelter is one of the 3 basic human needs besides food clothing and beer
2. Most people are financially inept but still have the needs of point 1.

therefore as a society there are 3 options.
1. allow the majority of society to be homeless for at least part of their life.
2. The government from their inexhaustable money supply provide everyone with a home. Now there's a likely scenario.
3. allow generous deductions and allowances for the small % of us willing to get off our backsides and "avago" by buying investment property.

without negative gearing I would sell my rental properties tomorrow and my tennants, lovely people that they are, can fend for themselves as I have enough problems of my own.

We greedy landlords, as we have been described, are a necessary evil to society. And there's nothing anyone can do about it.
