Here's an example of what the tech can do.

You have a kid that uses Facebook 2 hours (on average) a day to talk with friends and look at silly pictures etc. The parents know this and are ok with it. Suddenly the child is using Facebook for 15 mins a day. You havent seen any of the messages but it is obvious something has changed. Has the child been bullied? is the child avoiding someone, something? This would flag the parents and say, usually when this happens its a bullying problem (for example) and here are some resources for you to talk to your kid about bullying.

Following the facebook trend, the child may still be using it for around 2 hours a day but is now using it at 11pm at night instead of after school. Most of there school friends would be asleep (presumably) so who is the child talking to? This is also likely when the parents are asleep. It would flag this and alert the parents to possible grooming and provide resources on how to handle it.

In both those situations the parents never saw the messages and cant embarrass the child about particular comments etc, however, the child has been protected and the parents informed of possible problems so they can monitor the situation more closely.

The WFI will also notify parents if a suspect app has been installed. School kids do not need access to Tinder for example, but if they do install it even if it is hidden away somewhere (ie changed name and icon) the parents are able to have the conversation about what the app is and why its not suitable.

It can potentially also check websites being accessed ie if your 12yo son starts going to porn sites. Its probably worth having a conversation about the birds and the bees and that it's not an appropriate way to treat women in the real world etc.

These are just a couple of things off the top of my head but they have a whole matrix of behaviors and patterns from TKI. Some will be pretty obvious some will be a bit more nuanced but overall its about informing the parents about potential problems before serious issues can occur.
