It's been my experience that second homes which do not have tenants (holiday houses) are amongst the first to suffer in times of hardship.
Currently there is a moderating factor in that the ageing of the population means that proportionately there are more people retiring then there have been in the past and many decide to live by the coast. They will be less likely to sell up then the people who don't live in the houses.
