if you watch a closing auction, or even pre open, you can see how orders a jiggled to either sell higher, or buy lower...
lets say a buyer has a bid at 1c.............a seller at 1.1
at the end of the day, a seller offers 100k at 1c to get rid of them.
a buyer will bid 99,999 at 1.1 to get those shares at 1c, therefore 1 share drops into the 1c bid. Its a risky game but you can snare parcels by queue jumping, do it myself sometimes, and been caught out, but, afraid to say, its not usually a conspiracy. Pick a hot stock of the day, and watch the closing auction as the bids/sells come and go, quite entertaining sometimes.
Which is not to say that the instos dont manipulate either........its also worth noting and please correct me if i'm wrong, but i think bots knock off at 4pm, they dont work in the auction, something i noticed when buying/selling for a friend in stocks like BWP(reit)....you very quickly move up the queue at 4pm as the bots all cancel their orders. In fact, BWP would be a prime candidate to follow into the close to see how it all works
