Amongst other memories I had in mind is the recent story of a broken hearted Iraqi father who took his grown son out into a field and shot him for collaborating with the US. He did this to restore his own honour in his village.
Those you mention were indulging in criminal acts that generally are condemned by their own societies. This ME thing may be similar to criminal behaviour in our own country, even by "non ethnic Australians", but we are talking about practices that are often tacitly condoned by there own legal systems and have acceptance in their own tribal and national situations and are regarded as honourable. That is what is different.
