One could equally interpet the 0.5% drop as a measured, appropriate response to a disproportionally represented subprime issue ... you know, along the lines of "a stitch in time saves nine ..." or similar ... if so, it should have a calming effect measured in decreasing volatility ... but if hedge funds insist on manipulating the 30 stock DOW as a proxy index for the global economy then I say let a few of them vaporise.
