Toulouse: here are the 19 new CCTV cameras installed

19 new CCTV cameras have just been commissioned in the streets of Toulouse in September 2017. There are now 335 out of the 350 planned by the town hall.

This was one of the great promises of the candidate Jean-Luc Moudenc in security, in the municipal elections of 2014: developing video surveillance . At the time, there were only 21 cameras in the streets of Toulouse . The objective set by the municipality Moudenc was to install 350 on the mandate.

Two years and a few months later, the Toulouse City Council prides itself on reaching the goal:
The deployment of the videoprotection device in all the districts of Toulouse is nearing completion (...) The commitment made by Jean-Luc Moudenc in 2014 to endow Toulouse by the end of 2017 with a based on 350 new cameras and meeting the most stringent requirements for the protection of civil liberties, will therefore be kept in the announced calendar.

At the beginning of September 2017, the program of development of the video surveillance has crossed a new direction, and is approaching the last straight. 19 new devices have just been put into service in the Pink City. A total of "335 cameras in operation to date", says the municipality of Toulouse.
19 new cameras have been commissioned in the following sectors:

• Soupetard (1 camera): rue Cassaing
• Reynerie (4): Kiev Street, University, Tabar Avenue, Claudius Street
• Sesquières (3): allée des Foulques, the path of Rupé (2)
• Bagatelle (1): rue Vestrepain
• Saint-Simon (3): Missak Manouchian Street, Carovis Street, Saint-Simon Road
• Demoiselles (1): avenue Saint-Exupéry
• Montaudran (1): rue Gonin
• Rangueil (4): rue Bougainville, rue Forbin, rue Guyou, chemin du Canal
• Borderouge (1): rue Etcheverlepo

A first solar video surveillance camera in Toulouse

It should also be noted that the first video surveillance camera powered by solar panels has just been commissioned in Toulouse. This very first photovoltaic installation was made near the complex of discotheques of Sesquières. According to the City of Toulouse, "the tests in real have shown a autonomy of 68 hours of operation, with non-stop scenarios using the fully charged batteries at the start".

The neighborhoods covered by the last 15 cameras

To perfect the municipal plan, it will only remain to light 15, which are "in the process of assembly", specifies the town hall ... Once they are put into service, "they will bring to 350 the number of new cameras operational on the communal territory ".
15 cameras are being installed in the neighborhoods:

• Reynerie (2)
• Downtown (5)
• Prat Long (1)
• Goodfoy (1)
• The Terrace (1)
• Saint-Martin-du-Touch (1)
• Empalot (1)

Who finances these cameras?
It should be noted that the State contributed 44% to the financing of the development of video surveillance for the year 2015, ie a grant of 775 000 euros. To this sum are added subsidies from the ERDF (European Union) for cameras deployed in sensitive neighborhoods of € 195,000.
The cost of operating the cameras is then borne by the City of Toulouse. The stream of images retransmitted is viewed from the Information and Command Center of the Toulouse Municipal Police, which is operational 24/7.
