"We women have equal pay (well, I did, since 1970 as a teacher), can marry and divorce, buy properties in their own name, are in management roles in Corporate Australia,"

    morning picastoc

my friend, I don't know what planet you are on - but, I hope the air is breathable.

You may well have had equal pay being a public servant - but, I am sorry - in the real world - it is not necessarily so.

And, whilst women are in management roles -- you may want to listen to the stories of many women in high level corp. world --- just look at the stuggle to get women into boards and higher management positions -

I suggest being a public servant has clouded you somewhat.

Also - if you actually read my post that you referred to - you will notice that I was referring to what our society was built on -- the PAST

you may well have missed that small but, important point -

please read it again with this fact in mind - and, when you do - perhaps research the laws around marriage from years past - it may be enlightening for you --

indeed - much of it isn't all that past either ----------- a little research into Irish law in the 1970's might enlighten you further

here's some stuff that women couldn't do - and, remember - this is when your are sprouting your 'equal pay'

    1. Keep her job in the public service or a bank when she got married

    2. Sit on a jury

    3. Buy contraceptives

    4. Drink a pint in a pub

    5. Collect her children's allowance

    6. Get a barring order against a violent partner

    7. Live securely in her family home

    8. Refuse to have sex with her husband

    9. Choose her official place of domicile

    10. Get the same rate for a job as a man

Being astute, you may notice the fact that at that stage Ireland was a very strong Christian society

    coincidence???????????

You may now also notice that it has grown up and dumped at least the Catholic Church big time --

we shall see if Australia begins to show that it is also grown up -- or, will it become the social backwater of the south?
