The leader of Australia's Muslims has called on anyone with information about the Greenacre killings to come forward to the police and urged violent youths to "stop submitting to Satan".

Sheik Taj Din Al Hilaly, the Mufti of Australia, also pledged to do everything he could to peacefully resolve any family feuds which may be causing violence in the Muslim community.

His comments follow the deaths of 22-year-old Mervat Hamka and 24-year-old Ziad Abdulrazak, when gunmen fired more than 100 bullets into a south-western Sydney home in the early hours of Tuesday.

Sheik Hilaly said Muslims were disobeying God if they knew something about the double murder but did not tell the authorities.

"We remind these individuals that any person who does not pass information in their possession to the police is disobeying God and is an accessory to the crime," he said in a statement.

"These horrific crimes have no place and no justification in our community or in our Australian society, a society whose safety and security is the responsibility of each and every one of us," he said.

Sheik Hilaly called on wayward Muslim youths to turn their lives around and hand over their guns to the government.

"We appeal to the youth who are absorbed in hasty and destructive behaviour, to stop submitting to Satan and to return to their sanity and to take advantage of the gun amnesty and hand in all their weapons," he said...

He said he would try to calm any blood feuds in the Muslim community. ...............
