IMO - at the base - it's a chemical and brain issue
now it's managed is probably more important
is there a formula that can be applied overall with guaranteed success?? I doubt it.
I agree with the observation that 'some' of them who play sport are 'sometimes' better off than those who don't - but, it sure isn't across the board - there are a zillion cases of sports bad boys.
I had a great friend - there were about 4 of us who used to hang about together tightly - and, one of us was very intelligent, very good at school - high level, very good at sport and very regular at sport - if one had picked the one to succeed - it was probably him. His parents were great from what we saw, not an issue.
All of a sudden - for a couple of weeks - we just didn't see him. I cannot remember why we didn't twigg that something was up - but, we didn't.
Then - he was home - and, we all trooped around to see him.
He was completely buggered -------------- we never found out how or why - but, somehow, with someone or someone's - he got into heavy drugs - and, in that very short time - his brain was fried. The shortness of the time was the stunning thing - basically he was our completely normal mate one week and the next - he was like a walking vegetable, barely able to sting a sentence together.
He was kept away from us - or us from him - I can't remember which - and, he never recovered.
My wife, a decade or 2 later worked at a University and he came there as a new student or looking to be a student or similar and she said - he was just 'gone' - completely gone as we knew it.
He never did the angry thing either - but, boy did he damage himself and a lot of people around him - and, at least we, his mates would never have picked it.
pretty scary ---------- in fact, very bloody scary.
