looking at rectal administration I can see why Artimist should be used. Being in the medical game I can assure you that PR is not the best method for clinician , nor patient. It may also be culturally insenstive in some communities. Its action is not as rapid as the SL route, but it is quite quick to work due to extent of rectal mucosa, and doer=s miss the first pass problem.
The MMA/WHO have stipulated that certain criteria must be completed before ArtiMist can be considered for WHO recommendation of preferred medicines. The final one is registration with the TGA.
Once completed then the process can move forward.
Seems ridiculous, but the delay is absurd if you think of children dying every day!!
